Holla Days

A message of thanks for all those who follow the Futurepost, from Futurepoem’s own Dan Machlin.  Holla back with a donation!

I wanted to thank you for all your support of Futurepoem during the past year.
I hope you will consider an end of the year tax-deductible gift to support Futurepoem. We need your support now more than ever to continue our efforts to publish and champion ground-breaking innovative literature. Your support will also help us continue to provide a free publication opportunity for innovative writers with our annual Futurepoem open reading period.

Futurepoem faces significant financial challenges in 2011. As many of you know, Arts funding is being drastically cut throughout the country and our funding from the New York State Council on the Arts has been dramatically reduced. Plain and simple – we need your support now more than ever.

With your past support this year we’ve been able to accomplish amazing things and are doing more than ever. Our new blog Futurepost (spearheaded by new FP Editor Chris Martin) presents responses to work by Futurepoem authors by noteworthy members of the literary community. And I’m thrilled to announce that we will soon be publishing exciting new books by: Alan Gilbert, Camille Roy, Noah Eli Gordon, Tonya Foster & Dana Ward. Plus we’ve been excited by the involvement of some fantastic Futurepoem guest editors including Eileen Myles, Bob Perelman, Kim Rosenfield, and this year, Wayne Koestenbaum, Anne Waldman and Lytle Shaw.

We’re proud that several of our recent Futurepoem titles have received significant recognition this year. Ronaldo V. Wilson’s Poems of the Black Object received both the Thom Gunn Award for Gay Poetry and The Asian American Literature Award for Poetry. Mina Pam Dick’s Delinquent won two design awards including the AIGA nomination for one of the 50 best book covers in the U.S. in 2009. And we were thrilled when Marcella Durand’s Traffic & Weather was selected by John Ashbery to read at the 92nd street Y with two other poets earlier this year.

So please consider an end-of-the-year tax-deductible gift to Futurepoem.

No amount is too small to help us – even $10 or $15 will go a long way. We have always been a poet-run press dedicated to give back to the community. We hope you will help us continue to serve and continue to grow in new exciting directions.

Thank you and happy holidays & new year!

Best,
Dan
